Public Restrooms and You… Yes, You!

  • No Related Post

I hate public restrooms, plain and simple. Nine out of ten times they are filthy, smelly and disgusting. I have to admit that I am a clean freak and germs freak me out sometimes. I am the person you see opening the bathroom door with a paper towel (I just washed my hands, why must I dirty them again?). I attend a University with 30,000+ undergraduate students. There are bathrooms left and right, but the majority of them are on my “do not enter” list. This semester, all of my classes are contained in a small area. This makes my life easy, because I can pick one location for my preferred restroom, and be happy.

For me, it is the third floor of the Henry Koffler Building at the University of Arizona. This is the best restroom I have ever found on campus, because it is always clean and better yet, no one really uses it. My reasoning is that it is in the student laboratory building, so only the true geeks use it anyways!

I won’t get into the specifics or dirty bathrooms, but for the sake of the rest of the world, please answer my plea for help and follow these simple rules when using a public restroom:

  1. Flush! (More than once if needed)
  2. Wash your hands, with soap and warm water

Just because it is a public restroom, it does not mean that you are free to treat it like a dumpster. Public means for everyone!

Is anyone else out there like me, do you have a favorite “clean” public restroom that you use? What about public restrooms in general, what’s your opinion?

Nice post,
I hate public restrooms as well, and living in a dorm, you can
imagine how bad it can be at times. :s

I too am becoming more and more of a germaphobe. I can’t agree with you more. There are a few disgusting people in my office building. I have no idea who they are. If I thought it would make a difference, I would post notes hoping to get their attention. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that it is nearly impossible to get people to change their personal habits.

One suggestion- add “with soap” to note #2.
