Why Goats Work

  • No Related Post

What is it about goats? They have a reputation for eating everything. Have you ever been to a county fair and gone in the ever-present petting zoo? Usually there are a bunch of little goats in there you can buy a cup of pellets to feed, or a bottle, etc. During our annual excursion to the local fair and its petting zoo this year, this one goat kept trying to eat my shoelaces!

So, did you know goats actually prefer weeds to grass? Watch one sometime. They really are pretty simple to maintain; they don’t like to move around, so if you have a little piece of ground that could use some cleaning up, consider a goat!

GroundSourceHeatPump - for Goats

Knew a friend who had a goat. He’d just chain it to a concrete block and let it chew grass and weeds all day - good size property. Want to clear some land? Move the concrete block.

P.S. If you also feed the goat pellets - yes there IS goat chow - do NOT stand between the goat and the food bowl !

Goats are great. Most people do not consider them as “pet” material but they are affectionate, intelligent and useful as well. If trained, they are better hiking companions and carry more (by percent of body weight) than llamas and are easier to keep. Some communities will let you keep them as pets and I think more people should look at them as an option. They do not smell bad if bathed regularly and can be house-kept to some extent. They do not overgraze like sheep or cattle and will naturally vary their diet when they can. As you can tell, I am a goat fan.
