Rabbits

We have a little space where I live. We have some chickens, cows, dogs, cats, rabbits, a frog and hermit crabs. Not all of these coexist, especially one of the dogs and the chickens, each has its place. We were given a rabbit, I suppose this happens often. The kids named him something I cant remember. Since I feed him everyday, I call him Peter and he seems fine with that! We were given a small Doe, (males are bucks, females are does), they are in separate pens, but I have been looking into what rabbits are good for.

My wife has the idea of being self sufficient, its a good idea, we are considering a milking cow given nearly $4/gallon milk. Rabbits obviously pro-create so we are careful about that but I have noticed a few things. Their droppings are great fertilizer, I mostly put it in the compost bin, but they really put it out! They shed and if you collect the fur, you really could make something from it. I suppose we could even let them breed and have food and or gloves.

For now, I just feed them and talk to them every day. They don’t talk back, but they are really fun to watch.
