If I Thought He Could Do It

Barack Obama noted in Iowa today that he would reform the lobbyist centric system in Washington if elected president. I for one think that is a great idea. The question however is how did we get to this point? The original intent of our style of government was to have everyday individuals represent us, when did we let greed takeover this proposition? Now we have entrenched representation that brings home the bacon to, you guessed it, you and me. How much effort is devoted to doing what is best for the country as opposed to what is best for the representative? Hmm.
These are just musings prompted by Mr. Obamas statement. I really wish we had term limits, no lobbyists, pay commensurate with the job you hold as a citizen, and met in Washington DC 4 times a year for two weeks at a time. But government is too complicated and complex for that. Then simplify it!
I would give Barack a chance if I thought it was his responsibility to do the reforming. Unfortunately it is up to us to demand change and reform, who is up for it?

Apparently no one is up for it. Too many are so apathetic that voting is too much of a chore. The ones who want change are of two types. There are the complainers - solely because they like to complain, and the doers - who do all they can, but it isn’t enough to overcome the inertia of the complainers and the apathetics.
