Superbowl Weekend thoughts

Hello to all,
Hard to believe February has already begun-here in the Northeast winter has not even showed up yet. Speaking of which isn’t Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day the only groundhog worth talking about? There are some traditions that just need to retire.
Random thoughts:
Super bowl weekend is here and don’t you think that since EVERYONE is picking the Colts that an upset is in the cards. It did happen once before to the Colts but of course Rex Grossman is no Joe Namath. I fear the most exciting moment of the game could be Prince’s set. Lets hope for a nailbiter-the playoff games up to this point have been outstanding.
Is Heroes the best new show this year? The acting, storylines and characters are all well done. And it is one of the few shows out there that our whole family watches together. In today’s world that is a rarity.
On that note 30 Rock is by far the best new comedy. Again the cast is perfect for the show and Alec Baldwin has been a pleasant and hysterical surprise.
For those who think that the whole Boston bomb scare was on over reaction on the cities part give this some thought:
Is it more comforting to know that 10 cities has these devices hanging around for weeks and no one paid attention to them or that one city did eventually? In the post 9/11 world we live in crazy times. Who ever thought of shoe or liquid bombs just a few years ago? Or that a box cutter could be a lethal weapon? And I’m sorry I have 4 children and those who so confidently say its obviously a cartoon character do not know what they are talking about. Its easy to say that after you know its a cartoon and if you look closely at the character its appears to be giving you the big middle finger-if I’m on a bomb squad team it would give me pause. I say give Boston a break and thank god it wasn’t anything.
Is it me or you all tired of the Presidential races? I’m only 42 but I remember when the national conventions meant something. I can recall Regan/Ford battling it out on the convention floor which led to some excitement. Just the other day I heard a commentator state that if certain candidates lose the New Hampshire Primary next February they will be out of the race. Is that crazy? And if that is the case what is the point of the primaries at all? Our national elections need an overhaul but I don’t think any party is willing to work towards that goal. Needless to say if any of the politicians were paying attention they would see the general apathy towards politics is growing because of them. I think this country needs a candidate who speaks his/her mind without relying on catch phrases or pollsters.
If you love history and have never read a book by David McCullough you are missing one of the great writers of our time. His historical biographies not only expose you to a wealth of information but he brings the time alive so you understand better what his subjects experienced. Currently I am reading John Adams which is fascinating and his book on Harry S. Truman was incredible. I strongly urge you to invest in one of his works.
Until next week-enjoy the Super bowl!!
