When you press Enter within an Excel spreadsheet, the cursor automatically moves to the cell below. I find this very annoying at times, particularly when I want the cursor to move to the left instead of down.
It’s easy to change the cursor direction, as described below:
- Within Excel, click the Microsoft Office Button and click Excel Options.
- Click Advanced.
- Under Editing Options, click the drop down arrow beside the After pressing Enter, move selection option and select the appropriate option (down, right, up or left).
- Click OK.
Now when you press Enter, the cursor moves in the direction that you selected in step 3.

I have always thought this default direction little annoying as well.
