Firefox 4 Eye Candy

There should be an image here!I’ve been a fan of Firefox for some time now. No, really, it’s been a great browser and I have had many fond memories with it. With Firefox 4 just around the corner, I am finding myself wondering why I would want to even bother with it at this point. I mean, yes, it’s great. But Chrome has blown its doors off in so many ways I cannot even believe it. Despite my own personal feelings though, I cannot say for sure how Firefox 4 is going to turn out. Maybe it will win me back?

My gripes are rather simple. I want Firefox to not run like snot in comparison to Chrome. Give me speed or move out of my way. In addition to that, the  overall feel of Firefox is in dire need of a refresh. Can the new update help us out with that? Perhaps.

The only thing I see Firefox offering that keeps bringing me back is the use of plugins. Remove this, however, then it’s simply another browser with the same kind of benefits and problems as all of the other browsers out there. Maybe I am just becoming too cynical these days, but this is how I see it. Firefox, get something new in place. Chrome is eating your lunch and you need to get with it.

Aren’t the plugins the things that slow Firefox down? I realize there is also the question of browser engine.

Don’t forget Iron. It’s Chrome without the privacy invasion. Opera is very fast too.

I am really incredulous over how people always have to have the supposed ‘newest’ and ‘best’ and just move from one thing to another because for some reason nothing provides ultimate satisfaction. Firefox may not be THE fastest browser, but it is incredibly versatile, like a set of never ending Legos. Firefox isn’t what you get, it’s what you make of it. Chrome is unimpressive, and difficult to add what you want to it, relying upon GreaseMonkey to give it any personality. Firefox has Personas, and allows for constant visual exploration and creativity. Chrome is just Google’s under developed version of Firefox, and really…why would I not be loyal to the original?
