One of the new features in Windows Vista was User Account Control or UAC, which was designed to prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. Each time you attempted to perform a task that required administrative rights, a dialog box appeared prompting you for permission. UAC has been carried over into Windows 7, with several enhancements to improve its functionality. These enhancements are described below:

  • Decrease in the number of UAC prompts to which an administrator or user must respond.
  • Four levels of notification: Never notify me, Only notify me when program try to make changes to my computer, Always notify me, Always notify me and wait for my response.
  • Additional security policies that allow administrators to change the behaviour of UAC prompts for local Administrators in Admin Approval Mode.
