Prepare For Your Annual Performance Review
So I’m getting ready to go through my first performance review. Oddly enough, for all the years that I’ve been working in the IT industry, I’ve never had a performance review. I can’t say I’m excited about it but I’m certainly not nervous either. The time I have spent over the past few days preparing for the review has definitely alleviated any nervousness.
If you’re about to undergo a performance review, I highly recommend you do some pre-work. More specifically, familiarize yourself with the performance review process and the overall goal. Furthermore, and more importantly, start gathering your artifacts. By this I mean gathering the following information:
- A copy of your job description
- The goals set on your last performance review
- Documentation to support your accomplishments
- If requested, a self-assessment, which may include areas you feel you have done well in and where you need to improve
In a nut shell, you should plan to spend a few hours preparing for your performance review. Doing so, will help to ensure that the overall process is a positive one that contributes to your on-going development.
