Search More Effectively In Outlook
Sometimes, finding a specific email in Outlook is like searching for a needle in a hay stack. However, there are some best practices you can use to help you search for specific messages. For example, if you’re searching for a message from a specific sender, open the appropriate folder and type from: name (where name is the name of the sender) in the search field. Furthermore, you can search for exact matches by including quotes in the search. For example, by typing from:”Joe Smith”, Outlook will only search for results from Joe Smith.
Here are some additional best practices you can follow to narrow your search:
- Type hasattachment:yes in the search field to find messages that contain attachments.
- To search for a message with a specific attachment, type attachments:name where name is the name of the attachment you are looking for.
- To find a message from a specific sender with a specific subject line, type from:name about:”phrase” where name is the name of the sender and phrase is the phrase in the subject line.
- Type subject:phrase to search for message containing a specific phrase in the subject line.
- To search for messages received on a certain date, type received:=DD/MM/YY.
There are many other options you can use for searching within Outlook. You can search for message based on size, date received, week received, flags, and so on. For a complete list of search options, go here.
