The first thing most of you are likely thinking is “why does this even matter?” Clearly, Craigslist is better and everyone knows it. To be honest, I think it depends on what you are doing with either service. For instance, if you are looking for cheap or free computer parts to use for a weekend tech project, I have found that Craigslist is vastly better overall. Yet I will give eBay Classifieds a point for providing readers with immediate access to other nearby areas if the listing of “stuff” is not all that helpful.
Employment. For those looking for work in the IT sector, again Craigslist wins out here. But at the same time I see eBay trumping Craigslist by providing recommendations to jobs in other nearby areas.
So where else does eBay just provide a better experience? The site layout. Without question, eBay Classifieds looks MUCH better than Craigslist. Don’t get me wrong, I love Craigslist for the content… but that 1990s looking minimalist nonsense is getting pretty old. One could provide the same experience with a better color scheme.
Selling something? My suggestion is to consider using both sites. While Craigslist may be the king of the jungle at this point, it never hurts to increase your odds a bit… just in case. Same goes for other uses for this type of Web site. Just utilize both.
