Firefox Continues To Lose With Speed

Posted by on Jan 25, 2010 | One Comment

Despite recent speed gains, Firefox continues to lag behind Chrome and Safari. What makes this even more frustrating is that the latest 3.6 release is definitely quicker than the previous release, yet continues to fall behind the others in the pack regardless.

Now for an important question — should we care? I used Chrome for about a week, and hated it with every ounce of my being. While it’s quick, the address bar doesn’t provide any pull-down menu of previous pages visited, which was frustrating. I also dislike how the options are laid out. Forget about something sane like File, View, Tools, etc. Nope, this is grouped into one soupy mess.

No thanks, Google, speed is not everything for me. And so long as the latest Firefox is stable, I’ll stick with it most likely. As mentioned above, I wish Firefox could keep pace with Chrome, but not at the expense of having to forego my user experience. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose.

Safari for Mac, with just 2 extensions rapes Firefox and is much, much, MUCH faster.
