Keeping Your Browser On A Diet

Stumbled upon an interesting article today in which it’s described, in no short order, how one can reclaim lost resources once belonging to a browser of choice. What struck me as odd is that we still have folks struggling with browser resource issues. Seriously?

Look, I have tried them all and despite dancing with Chrome, Opera, and others… I always end up using Firefox. Not for the add-ons, rather the fact that it’s just what I am used to. Well that and Chrome does strange things to some WordPress templates. Wild, as they work in ALL other browsers, on all platforms, but Chrome.

So about making browsers more usable. Honestly, the author of the article linked above has bigger issues than browser overload if they are still using Windows XP. It’s 2010. Either get Windows 7, switch to a Mac, or install Ubuntu. Whatever is may be, get a modern OS installed as something designed for 2001 is not cutting it.

So is this a browser issue or a matter of the author using a dated OS? Going out on a limb, I am inclined to say both. There is no question that in some cases, Firefox has in the past been a huge resource hog. IE just stinks, period. But sometimes, so does Firefox. In the end, I’d start with a modern OS, then weed out browser issues after that fact.
