Firefox Mobile – Finally

For a while there, I was not all that convinced that we would ever see Firefox actually appear on mobile devices. Then today I read at CNET that we may finally see a release candidate of Firefox for mobile phones out by next week. Now that would be something!

But then we have to look at the various mobile devices and the browsers already available. Windows Mobile users have Opera (sorry, IE blows), iPhone users have their mobile Safari browser and Android users have whatever the heck their phones use. Do we really need a Firefox browser for mobile phones? I would never personally use in on my iPhone after being stung so many times in the computer realm with bugs and crashing.

Perhaps the dumbest thing I see happening in this space is launching with Nokia first, other phones later. Don’t get me wrong, Nokia phones rock. But I think tapping the iPhone or Android first would have been the best place to start. Then again, perhaps it comes back to my previous statement – no one using either smart phone is going to care?
