PS2 Finally Released – In Brazil

This had me doing a serious double take! Could hardly believe what I was reading. We are not talking about the PlayStation 3 here folks, Brazil is JUST NOW gaining access to the antique-like PlayStation 2. While it is a solid system with tons of great games, it is very outdated by just about any standard you can throw at it.

This sort of makes me wonder if they were still using Atari through the late ’90s and have been engrossed with the 8-bit NES system up until recently? All poking fun aside, I am glad to see such a great older gaming system seeing a new life with folks that will clearly appreciate it for what it has to offer.

But before we go on pointing out how much cheaper the PS2 is going to be for the good folks of Brazil, consider this. It’ll set them back US $461 per unit. Boy, sounds like a bargain to me! Personally, I think Sony is drinking its own Kool-Aid if it thinks this is going to float well. Folks down there would be better off with PC gaming with that price tag.

Hi, I’m from Brazil, I came across this article, and here’s the thing, I’ve had a PS2 for almost 2 years now, and I got it from a regular store, but I think it’s important that people know that PS2 is fairly common down here, most of my friends have them and it is not a novelty to us, in any fashion. PS3 and Wii are becoming more and more common. True, they’re a bit expensive, but still, we’re not completely alienated to technology, ok? PS2 is not even something that only rich people have. I don’t know where people get this stuff from!

ps3 and xbox 360 are already released here in brazil

xDShadowxD & Luiza: Thanks for clarifying this. So what in the heck is that article I found talking about then?

The Brazil I know of is a model for Linux use and has a lot of other good things going for it with technology. But where in the world did that article come up with the idea that the PS2 is new to you folks? Help me out, I’m confused.

Still, I appreciate your both clarifying the facts for me.

You see this is why I dont beleive everything I read on the Internet!

What Do You Think?
