User Account Control Notification Levels In Windows 7

Posted by on Nov 18, 2009 | No Comments

User Account Control in Windows 7 includes enhancements designed to improve the functionality. One of the enhancements is the inclusion of four notification levels. These notification levels let you control when UAC notifies you about changes to your computer.

The four notification levels include:

  • Always notify me. Any system-level changes will result in a UAC prompt, similar to the behaviour in Windows Vista. If you want to reduce the number of UAC prompts, do not select this option.
  • Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer. Any Windows setting changes, such as those made through the Control Panel, do not result in any UAC prompts.
  • Notify me only when programs try to make changes to my computer, without using the Secure Desktop. Similar to the previous setting, only the UAC prompt appears on the normal desktop instead of the Secure Desktop.
  • Never notify. UAC is turned off which means you will not receive any prompts.
