Design Of Windows 7 - Does This Really Matter?

I honestly fail to see why this entire statement on OS X and Windows 7 has even been an issue for anyone. Seriously, there is such a thing as a clean UI outside of that provided by OS X. While I would be among the first to point out that OS X has been offering a viable UI longer, Windows 7 UI is definitely not “copied” from that of Apple’s own invention.

Does this then mean that Windows 7 would have taken an opportunity to present the best UI possible had OS X never existed? Of course not. No, the competition provided by OS X is clearly reflected in the Windows 7 layout. This is undeniable. But there is a fine line that is clearly not being accurately addressed.

Where Microsoft found itself pushed was in the need to create a UI that did not look like crap. It’s really that simple. And OS X certainly had a hand in forcing MS to push the envelop there. But I would not agree that there was any direct inspiration. Providing a clean looking UI is hardly the same as copying something. Just saying… something to consider when drawing your own conclusions.
