Work More Efficiently With Outlook Appointments

Given that I spend a significant amount of time in Outlook and use it to organize my time, I’m always looking for application shortcuts. A Lockergnome reader recently alerted me to a few more Outlook shortcuts.

Often times I receive information about an event through email. When I create a new appointment for the event, I manually re-enter the event information into the appointment within Calendar view. However, I recently learned that I could drag the email containing event information to the Calendar. An appointment dialog box immediately appears displaying the header and body of the email. All I need to do is set the date and time. In the end, this shortcut saves me from having to re-enter the information manually.

On a similar but different note, I can also drag appointments from one day to another. If the date of an appointment changes, I can simply drag it to the new day as opposed to opening the appointment and manually changing it. By dragging it to a new day, Outlook automatically updates the appointment to reflect the new date. One thing to keep in mind though, as I learned when playing with the shortcut, if the day of the appointment changes but the time does not, the appointment must be dropped into the same time slot for the new day. Otherwise, Outlook changes the time as well as the day.
