Android From Verizon - Maybe Someday

Clearly this article hits the nail on the head in just about every way. But unless I was asleep when I read the piece, strangely I noted mention of the differences with the networks here in the States for each. Verizon wins big time in both overall coverage and 3G sustainability/access.

But as the piece points out, the iPhone is a clear winner with regard to application selection. Actually, that is about all it has going for it these days. But it is significant that folks such as myself continue to put up with the single network choice we have been given.

As cool as the latest Verizon Android phone is, I want a few things that as of this moment, do not exist yet on Android.

  1. I want access to a movie store. Yes, it took the iPhone a bit to get this one as well, but I watch a lot of movies on my phone while waiting for appointments, etc. So this would be a nice addition for me personally. Not a deal breaker, but honestly, it is about time.
  2. Kindle. For my wife, no Kindle app means no switching. We recently went to a big box store and both of us laughed at the absurdity of the various eBook readers… Too large, too expensive and totally not worth carrying along with the phone as a separate thing to remember. It’s as dated of a concept as separate music players and phones.

That is all I am asking for. Seriously, others may need other additions to make the switch to Android, but my needs are met with the options above. Because honestly, the final nail in the iPhones coffin for me was discovering the fact that my phone worked better with the 3G turned off. Can’t speak to the memory handling of the Android, but the iPhone is a total loser in that dept as well. Thankfully I have the memory clearing app before the folks at Apple decided it was to “risky” to have a working phone and banned that functionality. Just saying.
