Skype Gets A Win While AT&T Remains Clueless

Joy of joys, it seems that Skype has been granted AT&T’s blessing and will be able to use their broadband network for VoIP calls after all. Unfortunately, it seems that AT&T’s network for broadband usage remains in the toilet.
But their horrid user experience hardly stops there. No, my wife who is visiting family in Northwest Montana discovered that she had to use her mom’s mobile phone using a competing carrier as AT&T service was so bad, even the clock wasn’t working correctly, much less having any data or voice service. AT&T needs to have its plug pulled as far as I am concerned.
How does AT&T react to the user frustrations? Apparently due to their amazing lack of future planning while choosing to take on the responsibility of being the exclusive iPhone provider here in the states, AT&T is looking to “manage” their broadband usage with what sure sounds like could potentially be heavy throttling. Hey, look at the cable companies…it worked well enough for them.
Speaking for myself, once my contract with AT&T comes due to end here in a little over a year, I will be moving on. AT&T, as for your broadband issues, either stop supporting the iPhone and charging through the roof for data usage or fix the damned call-dropping/poor connectivity issues.

i am with you !! I waited 3 years for AT & T to provide DSL where I live 1 hours drive from Sacramento, California. i had to circulate a petition to upgrade the lines in this section of this community of houses of well over 5,000 Still over 1/2 of the houses still have no DSL. When the introductory rate expired they tried to jack me up to 79.99 per month, so I jumped ship, and went with a co-location company at 54/quarter for a very reasonable rate of 1 Megabyte per second download. If I did not need a land line I would get rid of AT & To totally, but since I have no cell phone reception anywhere in this area I have no choices for cell phones either. I have travelled to India, and Korea on business and get better wireless internet service in the rural areas, 3 hours drive from the cities than I have DSL service. So I keep harping on the senators, and representatives, that the telcos, cable companies, and other providers of internet service are by and large raping us, and making the USA an internet backwater. Just be glad you have any cell reception, because as i said I live 1 hour out of Sacramento California, and have no cell phone reception at all.

To top it off, they keep offering me 6 mb down, when they can’t even provide the 3 mb that I am paying for now, and that is just my DSL woes. Data on the iPhone is a joke. 3G is like a broadband connection, while Edge is like dial-up. Unfortunately, 3G is like a $3 breakfast, impossible to find in most areas.
