Magazine Envy And A Contest

Posted by on Oct 7, 2009 | No Comments

Today I am writing to tell you about how I am able to get three great magazines of my choosing for less than what it takes to go out to eat at a local fast food joint. While some folks out there are still raving on about digital publications over portable eBook readers, I find that you cannot beat a REAL magazine subscription. Maybe it is the lack of batteries needed?

About using Maghound

Signing up was easy — just follow the prompts. Enter your name/address/credit card info, then make your selections. Nothing will be charged for 30 days, so you have a full thirty days to take Maghound for a test drive before committing to anything.

Actually the most difficult issue I found with Maghound was selecting which titles I wanted! There are so many to choose from, it is a bit daunting at first. Despite this, Maghound does a nice job making my selections easy enough via categories, popularity, or specific titles.

The magazines I selected came soon enough to my doorstep and were all the titles I selected — long live accuracy. All in all, the process was quite painless.

What made Maghound stand out for me personally was the option to choose new magazine titles on the fly. This means if I am growing tired of one title, I can swap it for something else right off of the website! This makes Maghound rather unique and also provides it with more staying power. No new charges — just pay the same low monthly fee. Simple.

Maghound contest for freebies!

Open to residents of the U.S., Maghound is holding a magazine give-away contest in which you, the Lockergnome readers, are able to enter a contest to win a free one year Maghound membership. I have two of these to give away, so it is totally worth your while to enter this contest.

The contest is simple: Just do any one of the following.

  1. Email me about what your very first magazine was. Tell me a bit about why it sticks in your memory and how it affected your childhood/young adulthood. What you liked or disliked, etc. Just give me a perspective on why you liked it. There is really nothing to it. Or…
  2. Email me about a magazine topic that you would like to see come into the marketplace that is currently not in existence that you are aware of. Perhaps an industry that is not receiving enough trade journal focus. Whatever it may be, tell me about it.

That is all there is to it. Just pick one of the above, then send me an email as per either topic above. It’s easy. Both winners will be picked out based on story interest, not grammar/spelling — either topic above has equal chances of winning. Just make your entries fairly interesting to read. That’s all you have to do.

How to enter the contest

To enter, send one of the following topics to matt@lockergnome.com — email subject is “Contest Entry.” Once I receive your entry, I will give it until Sunday the 11th and announce that we have two winners (no names given, though) on Monday the 12th. Winners’ names will not be shared publicly and Maghound’s privacy policy can be found here.

Good luck!

FTC disclosure: In light of recent FTC rules regarding disclosure on freebies received,
I am choosing to be upfront in pointing out that I have been gifted with a free monthly
run of three magazines of my choosing. This allows me to to review the service, in addition
to making sure things work well before I recommend it to others. Short of free magazines
received which comes to a value of about $5 according to Maghound's great prices, I have
received no other monetary compensation for my review directly from Maghound or its
affiliates.
