Outlook does a good job of keeping track of your items such as appointments, tasks, etc. However, with versions prior to Outlook 2007, you have to switch between different views to keep track of different items. For example, you cannot view your messages flagged for follow-up in the same location as your list of tasks.
One of the new features of Outlook 2007 is the To-Do Bar, which tracks all your items in a single column along the edge of the Outlook window., eliminating the need to switch between Outlook views. Furthermore, the To-Do Bar remains visible whether along the edge of Outlook, regardless of whether you are in the Calendar, Tasks, Mail, etc.
The To-do Bar consists of the following components:
- Date Navigator — a small monthly calendar
- Upcoming calendar appointments
- A place to enter new tasks
- Task list (including messages flagged for follow-up)
In addition, from the To-Do Bar, you can:
- Accept and decline meeting requests
- Quickly access your full calendar,
- Create new tasks
- Arrange, categorize and change the dates of your tasks
