Windows 7 Editions

There are three different versions of Windows 7: Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. While each version contains the same set of basic features, Professional and Ultimate have some unique features.

Note: There is a fourth version called Starter, which is designed for small notebook PCs. It is also the version that contains the least number of features. For example, it does not include the Windows Aero theme.

What features are included with Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate?

  • Improved desktop navigation
  • Jump Lists to start programs faster and more easily, and quickly find the documents you use most often
  • Internet Explorer 8 for Internet browsing
  • Watch, pause, rewind, and record TV on your PC
  • HomeGroup to connect to home networks

In addition to the above, Professional also offers the following features:

  • Windows XP Mode to run many Windows XP productivity programs
  • Domain Join to easily connect to company networks
  • Additional backup functionality to back up to a home or business network

In addition to the basic features and those included with the Professional edition, Windows 7 Ultimate also offers the following:

  • Bitlocker to protect data stored on PC and portable storage devices
  • 35 languages

You can find out more details about each of the editions to determine which one is right for you here.

This is great information. I really liked the fact that it was a quick read! Thanks.

I am already working with Windows Prerelease version, as yet Microsoft has not contacted me for at least one version to be installed on my Desktop with Vista Ultimate. Reminders have not helped, though allowed me to download the prerease. Need more info, thank you
