Manage Your Inbox With Delegation In Outlook 2007 Part I

Posted by on Sep 3, 2009 | 2 Comments

Outlook 2007 lets you give another individual the ability to manage your Inbox. For example, you can have another user schedule your meetings in Outlook, accept or decline meeting requests, or respond to your email on your behalf. Those people with hectic schedules often have assistants who manage their Outlook tasks.

In Outlook 2007, a delegate can do the following:

  • Send on behalf of you
  • Respond to meeting requests sent to you
  • Receive meeting requests responses sent to you
  • Compose and send email on your behalf

To delegate another user access in Outlook 2007:

  1. Open Outlook.
  2. Click the Tools menu and click Options.
  3. From the Options window, select the Delegates tab.
  4. Click the Add button.
  5. Type in the name of the person to serve as the delegate.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click OK.
  8. The Delegate Permissions window will appear where you can specify the permissions you want to assign to the delegate.

    Diane,

Great tip, however, you forgot to mention that this option is only available to those Outlook users that are on Microsoft Exchange. Others, using Outlook with regular POP3 accounts, do not see that option.

From the assistant’s normal inbox, how can she get the new INBOX of the supervisor as he did the procedure you have just mentionned… (to answer to his emails and contacts and meetings etc)
