eMachines - Once Powered By Hot Air

Oh, how far we have come. And to a larger degree, how far eMachines have come from the complete POS towers of garbage they once were… at least that is what people tell me. Back in my PC repair days, I used to shake my head with pity when a client would bring in one of these marvelous machines labeled with lies and other useless stickers. “Never Obsolete” it says!
Are they serious? I mean, we never expected these guys to produce anything like you might find with Falcon Northwest, Alienware, or other gaming rig specific companies. But for the love of Pete, how in the world did eMachines not get sued out of existence?
From its hamster powered PSUs to its cases so bad that even Packard Bell would be proud, to the fact that it took Acer to buy out the company to get its stuff together, here’s looking at you eMachines. You quite literally were about a hundred bucks stronger than a WebTV.

If you look at the “Never Obsolete” label, it says that you can upgrade every two years for a nominal fee. SO, based on that plan, it wouldn’t be obsolete. It isn’t much different than other “insurance” plans other electronic stores were offering. I had 3 Emachines over the years. Most still work fine, just outdated. One had a fan problem which was easily solved. For a basic email and internet machine for my kids at a price I could afford they were great. Also, it allowed me to have an extra machine in a third floor office at work so I didn’t have run downstairs to check on a file. They were not meant for heavy computing and that is where people had problems with them. The computer was not the correct one for their use.
