Wolfram Alpha And Bing Working Together
Bing is really working hard to differentiate itself from the competition. Despite me rolling my eyes over the Yahoo! deal, adding in Wolfram Alpha results is one of the best Bing changes I have read about yet. Think about it. Who knows more about specialized scientific and computational content? Clearly, it’s going to be Wolfram Alpha as it is a search tool specializing in this sort of data.
Microsoft’s Bing has not been terribly vocal about its deal with Wolfram — understandably so. Because there are occasions where Wolfram is providing “blank” results, I suspect Bing’s search team is hoping to get that problem rectified before making its work with Wolfram a big deal in the public eye.
So how will all of this stack up for Google? Thus far, it seems largely unaffected. However, I would point out that, as time passes, Bing is increasingly becoming a search engine to watch. Even me, a big time critic, is slowly finding himself impressed with where Bing is headed. It still has a ways to go, but if it keeps this sort of thing up, I may one day be giving Bing a lot more of my search queries.
