Mobile Choices To Be Made

Looking at this comparison has me leaning more and more with Android for a multitude of reasons. Price, overall, being a big one. There is no question that the iPhone (which I own) and the Pre are pretty cool. Sadly, both tend to have cost working against them. Especially the iPhone.

But then there is functionality and control. Again, the Android phone is not forbidding me from doing stuff I want to do and generally seems to be a bit “freer” with how one can go about using applications. But the killer is the fact that this class of phone only the iPhone is unable to do multitasking. What’s up with that?

Every day, I am more and more tempted to give Android a serious look. Give me easy access to the Amazon music store and on-demand movies from amazon — we’d have a winner. As for the Pre… I am still struggling with its weird commercials and late to the game issues. But that is just me. What do you think?

Ok seriously, no one cared about the iPhones inability to multitask until the palm pre came out. People lived three years without multitasking so stop bitching about it, or go to sprint.

While I’ve been encouraged by Android and it’s respectable sales of the G1 as well as the growth of the apps store, the relative trickle of Android phones since last fall’s release has left me unenthusiastic.

The recent release of the Palm Pre initially made me a bit cool, but I’m warming quickly to the idea. The phone itself is a clean design and avoids the virtual keyboard many phones opt for. Like Android, Palm’s WebOS has it’s basis in Linux, but seems, on first glance, to be more intuitive. It’s ability to have several apps running and receiving data constantly seems to be more consistent with what many want in a mobile device.

If I had to change phones/plans today, I’d have to consider the Palm Pre over Android and iPhone. As Android phones are released this fall that opinion may change, but it’s seeming less likely now.

I love my Htc Magic :) I also use my phone everyday Way more than i use my laptop.
The Magic’s battery life easily lasts me a full day (with wifi, gps and 3g turned on continuously) so it is very much improved from the G1’s.
I can use my Magic as a metal detector, a gameboy emulator, a barcode scanner and a IM client for about every messenger there is. And why? Simply because I can! because it’s cool and possible to do all of this on the go on such a small device and also to have it last a full day of charge while doing all of this.
Not to mention the widgets you can have, I for example have an Engadget widget which continuously gives me all the latest tech news, an FML widget which gives me all the latest FMLs from http://www.Fmylife.com and a word of the day widget.
All of these run in the background and since I also have a free application called Taskiller I can stop them running and taking processor power as well as battery usage at any time.
I even have a free application which backs-up my SMS messages to my Gmail account (it doesn’t put them in your inbox it simply puts them in their own Label and marks them as read, and it is all lain out as if it was an IM conversation).
If you seriously want to have a look at the Android platform then the Magic is the phone for it(it may be known as the MyTouch 3g in the US but it is the exact same phone) as it trumps the G1 with processor power and RAM size and the upcoming HTC Hero is technologically just the Magic with a different physical shell and a slight makeover which guzzles RAM.

The Magic is so far the best Android phone and I believe you would love it :)
