Migrating From XP To Windows 7 - No Problem

Like many of you out there, I have been hit with a number of people concerned with finding an easier way to upgrade from XP to Win 7 without putting themselves through a Vista purchase along the way. Well today I received word from a company called Laplink Software that there may be hope. Enter PCmover.
Designed to make upgrading from XP or Vista into your new Windows 7 install a snap, PCmover could very well translate into money well spent. What struck me the most was just how simple it is to use. Just run the software and follow along… it is shockingly easy.
At $40 for the home edition and $70 for the pro level option, not buying this seems rather silly to me. Sure, you could have everything done in a fresh installation of Windows 7. However for many people, going with an upgrade is really the easiest choice and it seems to me that PCmover is a decent place to get started in making this happen.

Thank you for giving the word out about PCmover Hartley. I didn’t even think this was even possible. If PCmover can do it, why can’t Microsoft find another way?

I think you will find that this is not necessarily the whole truth. End Users could well find that many files and indeed files they value and want retained do NOT get transferred in this process , and applications programs that ran happily under XP may not run at all under W7. The so called XP Mode much touted by Microsoft in W7 is not a solution but rather a band aid approach for corporate IT practitioners. The IT Profession makes the very wrong assumption that what comes easily to them should by default come easily to most users .. I have breaking news .. it does NOT ! What Microsoft and other IT Practitioners should have been doing is making the technology so much easier and straight forward and providing a direct upgrade from XP to W7. The fact Microsoft continues to IGNORE TOTALLY please for this to change shows very clearly what they think of the 75% of world users currently happy with XP. I hope they do not get the cash cow they are dreaming of.

[...] This means Windows XP users will have two choices on how to get upgraded to Windows 7: Wipe everything out and start from a fresh installation or upgrade to Windows Vista, then do another upgrade to Windows 7 [editor's note: Here's another option]. [...]
