Want Fiber Internet? Dig Your Own Ditch, Then!

I love this article. Not simply because it tells a tale of an ISP offering fiber Internet at obtainable rates, but rather part of its business model is asking their customers to dig the path from the street to their own homes. Thus, bringing fiber to their door.
Being a big fan of helping yourself rather than merely waiting for someone to do it for you, digging your own path to the front door is clearly a great idea as it means it saves everyone a bit money. And as the article linked above points out, there is also something special about being physically invested in a product vs. simply whining about it not being available to your door.
For folks such as myself, this is simply not going to be a real option considering my house build actually came with fiber to the door step. Lucky me, but I must say, part of me would actually enjoy the challenge of playing a virtual game of Dig Dug as I work to bypass buried power cables and gas lines. If nothing else, it would have been interesting!
