The Kindle For The Over 50 Crowd?

First off, if it is true what this article is saying and the Kindle is doing best with the over 50 crowd, awesome. Glad they are finding a means of reading books that fits their needs and budget. I say this as I am unclear how one person’s age suddenly becomes a negative?

As the article linked above points out quite clearly, people over 50 are generally the ones with money. Well, at least more than your 20-somethings, anyway. So if the over 50 person sees value in something like the Kindle, then I would not see it as a stretch that they would be willing to drop the $350 or so on the Kindle.

The article goes on to point out that while the actual users of the Kindle are older than folks such as myself — 35 — Amazon is apparently unaware of this as its marketing efforts still try to hit the iPhone crowd. Perhaps it is bothered by this fact, at least that is that the other piece suggests. Personally, being part of the demographic with disposable income is something I would hardly call a bad thing. The Kindle does provide ADULTS who wish to make eBook and magazine purchases effortlessly with a solid means for doing so. So while I cannot justify buying a $350 eBook reader with wireless abilities, those looking for a well designed product alternative to simply buying books the old fashioned way could do worse, I guess.

Besides, they say 50 is the new 40 anyway, right? And this is great news for me, as I no longer have to suck in my stomach when these 20-somethings roll up on their mountain bikes alongside me. Maybe 35 is the new 20? Hey, a man can dream, right?
