Google Android Not For PCs

I think Google Android is pretty cool. There is really no question about that. But then again, I have been warming up to the iPhone and the HTC phones as well. Each has something unique to offer. But coming back to Google’s Android as a platform, the idea of it coming to a desktop PC or even a notebook seems illogical. Allow me to explain why.

Android does one thing well: providing great mobile experience. And as mentioned in this article, it could also have a good shot at doing well with embedded devices, set top boxes, and even — to a limited degree — the common netbook.

I, for one, think it will be interesting to see where all of this pans out at. Eventually, I expect to see an attempt made on the netbook front. Yet it will face both the same hurdles and benefits overall as Linux has found on the netbooks. While I just cannot see Android working on notebooks and desktops, I believe, with some grooming, it would do pretty well considering the success of most of Google’s brands.

At this point, I believe it is something that we will have to wait and see about. While on one hand we might like to think that Android is poised to really rock the way we look at operating systems, I fear the reality will be a lot less exciting than most people are anticipating.

Pretty cool though. Google normally does things right. Am I wrong? So, this is how I am thinking as of now. Google is gonna take the ideas from Linux like Ubuntu 8.04 and see what’s awesome with that, but at the same time look into all the support that Win 7 has to offer with drivers and etc. I don’t know. Just an idea. Google has 2 solid platforms to use as an example and than normally google with there creative people, take off and come out with something brilliant. Hopefully this turns into something so googlicious that it leaves every ones jaw to the floor. haha.

Don’t forget that XBMC is a more general media client in that it also supports playing of music and viewing of pictures.

And you can use tvheadend with xbmc-pvr branch (Which will be merged into the main branch of XBMC soon) to have a fully fledged live-tv functionality within xbmc AND tv webinterface aswell.
