Miro Flash - Not Happening

At first when I installed Miro on my Ubuntu box, I figured I must have missed something really obvious as Linux provides great support for both Miro and Flash. Yet it was when I discovered that Miro has apparently and quite foolishly, released their latest version WITHOUT Flash support for Linux users. Yes, apparently there was a bug that prevented the Miro team from being able to provide Flash support in the Miro video client for Linux users. Considering how much video people watch on YouTube and other Flash based sources, this was a really poorly thought out move that should have led to postponing its release for Linux users in my opinion.

But wait, it seems like it gets worse - I am hearing of people using Windows who are not able to get Flash working with their Miro releases as well! While I have not had time to test my Windows box with this, I am really disappointed that this was allowed to slip through on a non-beta release. And no, being able to open up the content in a browser window via a button is not a solution.

Despite my frustrations with the Flash issues, I will give the Miro team a huge thumbs up with the new UI, better resource handling and the overall feel of the application. Very smooth…as long as you do not plan on enjoying Flash content.

This is one reason that I have a folder that I keep the earlier version of programs that update frequently. I can always delete the malfuntioning updated program and then install the ’saved’ older version.
