Netflix And Silverlight

First off, Silverlight is fine as it can provide tremendous advantages for specialized applications that you cannot really duplicate so well with Flash. So you will get no arguments there. But this being said, I am failing to understand why Netflix has put its energy into providing their stuff with Silverlight over Flash 10? Seriously, I just do not get it?

Unlike Flash, which is available for ALL popular operating systems, Silverlight leaves Linux support to Moonlight, which is a shame, as Moonlight is really behind based on its current version. But even going beyond the fact that Microsoft does not really support all popular platforms the way Flash does, I am also frustrated that people must install yet another plugin just to use some Netflix services.

Come on Netflix, Hulu amongst a host of others have PROVEN that Flash provides all you need to make streaming for everyone doable, without having to wonder which platforms are being left in the dark. Netflix, I am a Linux user, Roku user and for the time being…a subscriber. If I were you, I would give serious consideration to making sure you are not alienating users as we are becoming more difficult to come by these days. Just saying…
