Blogging – Finding The Time
With full time jobs (sometimes more than one), families, and other activities, how do people find the time to consistently blog without having to do so at 3 a.m.? It took me a long time to start my own blog for the simple fact that I had no idea where I would find the time to keep it up.
Bottom line — blogging takes time, particularly for those who do not find it easy to write. So for those of you who want to start your own blog but are holding back because of the time commitment, here are a few things that I have learned along the way:
- Establish a practical target. If you try to post each day, you will soon burn out and likely quit all together. Two or three posts a week is far more practicable.
- Carry a note pad with you and jot down any ideas for new posts as they come to you. Instead of starting with a blank slate each time you sit down to write your post, you can refer to the list of ideas to get your started.
- An incomplete post is not a waste. If you are unable to complete your post, post it anyways and let others add to it.
- Write your posts at the right time. Some people are more creative and focused first thing in the morning and for others, like me, it is later in the evening. Figure what time is right for you and designate that time as your “blogging time.”
- Get used to writing on the go. If you commute to work or travel frequently, use your commuting time as potential time to write new posts.
- Depending on your daily work schedule, consider working on a new post at the office during your coffee break or lunch break.
Finding one full hour each week may not be realistic but if you can find 10 minutes each day that adds up to one hour. However, busy you are, you should be able to find a spare 10 minutes. Once you get started, you will soon find that it just becomes part of your day.
