ThinkFree Office Is Back

After some back and forth correspondence, I am happy to report that ThinkFree Office does indeed have an HTTPS secured site up for taking orders for its software product. And because of this, I was able to complete my order for the Linux version today. Best of all, I can now focus on the software instead of my concerns over the transaction process.

On the Linux side of the fence, I found that I was not able to immediately enter in my serial key from the existing installation. Not a big deal; I just re-downloaded the software and enter it from there. Worked out just fine.

One area that I was dismayed about, happened to be my ability to login to their online services. Likely a glitch due to growing pains, it seems that when I registered for my user name to sign in, it does not actually mean that it is going to work, which is a shame. I blame this on something minor and am sure that ThinkFree is working on it. Well, that, and I submitted a request for help on the Web site on the matter. After all, I would like the ability to sync-up my documents.

Why in the world would I spend $50 on something I can get for free already? Simple: because, while I am not interested in spending more money with Microsoft, I am willing to spend a reasonable sum of dough for benefits like these. Overall, OpenOffice is really becoming a letdown. I would still use it over MS Office any day of the week out of principle, but it is really falling behind and this leads me into coming back to something I used to use on the Windows desktop. And that something is ThinkFree.

While I do think the company needs to get into gear to catch up with Zoho, which has had an evangelist for a while now, I believe ThinkFree is beginning to realize the importance of someone in this role. Had ThinkFree had someone in the role to begin with, I could have done a quick Twitter search and had answers to my questions a long time ago. Come on ThinkFree, you need to keep up, guys! :)

Absolutely. The key word is ‘reasonable.’ Even if the non-MS solution is $50 *per year,* you’ll fund ten years of the alternate solution vs one version of MS Office. Looks like a slam-dunk no-brainer.

First of all, thanks for your attention to ThinkFree Office. I am working on the register process at ThinkFree Online. I think you had some problem at registering. It needs to be verified by e-mail which is sent when you register. I am glad to hear to sync all your documents anyhow. You will get the e-mail that ThinkFree Online will be on update pretty soon. I hope you enjoy it. If you have any question, please don’t hesitate let us know. Thanks again.
