The iPhone And Microsoft Surface Have Nothing On This

Keeping in mind that the title is a stab at the technology more than the functionality of the described devices, I do not think there is any question that MIT’s little Sixth Sense gadget blows the doors off anything that Apple or Microsoft has come up with. It may not seem all that practical at this point, but I am pretty sure they once said the same thing about the mouse.

Just the video linked above where you see the guy dialing into his hand with what amounts to a projected image, is almost beyond belief. The idea of being able to interact with regular space, as if it was a hardware device is something I am really hoping becomes available here in the not too distant future.

Those of you already associating this with what you have seen in the movie “Minority Report” are pretty much spot on. Based on the work I am seeing at MIT, I believe we are definitely headed in that direction a hurry.

So what’s your take? Would you enjoy the idea of one day seeing Minority Report styled wearable computers that allowed you to open up a virtual screen with nothing more than the space in front of you? Or perhaps, the idea of parting with your keyboard and mouse is not something that you are ready to do just yet? Either way, hit the comments and sound off.

Education. I can see this in classrooms across the country. You could be on a page in a text book and then pull up a short clip of what you are talking about.

You could show real world connections with math, science and technology. Lesson planning would take on a whole new meaning.

In entertainment think about it. You are watching a movie and you want to magnify a section of the room to see what the character was reading before the doorbell rang.

I’m ready. So yeah, we are gonna need that national broadband hook-up sooner rather than later. See, planning ahead is a good thing.
