Mozilla And Google - Not So Cozy These Days

No matter how hard we might wish to deny it, the fact of the matter is that Mozilla’s relationship with Google is in big trouble. And while this might not mean the end of a browser, it will eventually mean that a new browser war is going to be starting soon.

Despite the instance that Google’s own browser should not really pose much of a threat to Mozilla, the fact of the matter is that it does put the browser company (sorry, I consider it a company these days) in a bit of a situation. Personally, I see the biggest mistake that Mozilla made was in putting so much of its revenue stream into Google hands. Easy, workable — sure. But one must ask how smart this is today?

After giving this much thought, I have come to only one conclusion: so long as Firefox is able to make a buck off of Google’s ad offerings, Mozilla really has nothing to lose in the short term. This being said, however, I would suggest that the browser group begin looking to other sources of financing as, clearly, Google could change its tune suddenly, leaving Mozilla little choice in the matter.

I think YES with HUGE letters…Chrome is faster for me…better for me…(IM A GEEK…TOP GEEK..Super GEEK lol) and I just dont like firefox anymore…its just so slow and clunky now…but it didnt used to be that way! I like chrome because its fast, quick to load…and as soon as everyone gets to know it..it will rock and be on top and all sites will recomend it because ITS a GOOGLE product which doesnt justify why its good, they just made a better browser..if you dont think so…I have a challenge: Delete firefox, and only use chrome for a month and you WILL like its simplicity and speed. It will take down mozilla in a few years if it keeps working the way it does! I gurantee it!

p.s before you say i am wrong….remember when you switched to firefox/mozilla and everyone hated it at first!

Firefox is much better and for a whole host of reasons I don’t see myself changing to Chrome (pretty much ever). I tire of the Google fan base that thinks whatever they produce is always a good solution. It’s like a Microsoft/Apple customer who has not clue about the actual competitive offerings based on quality and not emotion. FF is far superior in the following ways:

1. Community - As a supporter of OSS I don’t think Google will ever claim the same level of community as FF.

2. True OSS(Open Source Software) - Does Google really expect me to believe it is going to remain unbiased when it comes to future technological direction the same way a true OSS does?

3. Privacy - Soooo… You mean to tell me I should trust a company that makes the lion share of its revenues from web advertising isn’t going to somehow challenge my privacy? Mozilla has NO such incentive or goal.

4. Plugin/Extensions - I doubt you will ever see the level of development of plugins/extensions as FF.

I don’t want my browser experience and thus my web experience to be owned by any corporation that might have any conflicting goals. With the multibillion dollar market that is search marketing you better believe that privacy and autonomy will have something to do with this in the future…

I agree, I originally switched to Firefox because it was remarkably faster than IE at the time. But sometime after upgrading to the 2.0 series, it has become painfully slow. It seems major sections of the browser are now scripted, Since I start getting script taking too long errors when I have more than a dozen or so tabs open at the same time.

I may just have a go at chrome, to see if it has the speed I previously enjoyed.
