Apple will be just fine. For the past year or so, all we've heard is how Apple is on fire. Now, with a slowdown in their desktop sales "in these troubled times" [DRINK!, BOL listeners] everyone - not necessary this author - is panicking. Apple's notebook sales remain stronger than ever offering no surprises - they just refreshed that line with some fantastic hardware.

Apple has a ton of cash and no debt. How many PC manufacturers can say the same right now? The reason you're seeing so many companies fail is that debt factor. Apple is on track for a revolutionary increase in market share.

One more thing (no, not a Steve Magical Moment) that you don't hear enough is that Apple is ONE COMPANY. They produce the hardware, they produce the operating system. For one company to have 9% of the computer market while running an OS that nobody else runs (officially) is simply amazing. The iPhone haters used to drive me nuts with their comparisons of iPhone sales to that of RIM's Blackberry devices. There are TONS of Blackberry models and (now) only two iPhones (and only one being sold at a time).

I do agree that Linux distros need to get smarter if they ever expect to move beyond geeky. I run VMware on my MacBook Pro and have Ubuntu installed. That's about as far as I went.
