Using System Restore In XP Part II

In Part I of Using System Restore In XP, you learned how to create a restore point and how to restore your computer to a previous state. What happens if you complete the restore process but your computer is still not performing properly? It is possible that you unintentionally restored XP using the wrong restore point. In such cases, you can undo a system restoration after completing the restore process.

To undo a system restore in XP:

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and click System Restore.
  2. Click Undo my last restoration and click Next.
  3. Click OK.
  4. On the Confirm Restoration Undo page, click Next.
  5. Your computer will restart once the process is complete. Log on to the computer.
  6. From the System Restore Undo Complete page, click OK.

Now you can repeat the steps described in Part I to restore your computer using a different restore point.

I use it when it works. I have had xp installs where it never works and I could never find the reason. In those cases I have installed “ERUNT” that automatically backs up the registry on a user defined schedule and provides easy restoral, too.

As far as I can tell, a registry backup is the most useful thing about windows system restore.

I agree with Michelle!
There are times when SYSTEM RESTORE will work and other times when it will/does not work!
ERUNT is the way to go unless you have OTHER 3rd party
programs that will take you back!
