I Am A PC Revisited

I had to smile as Apple responded to Microsoft’s latest commercials. While Apple’s response is entertaining, it remains the same old smug comedy that has worked so well for the computer company over the life of the ad campaign.

Yet Microsoft, a company I am very hard on, outdid itself with its “I am a PC” commercials with regard to pointing out that the stereotypical PC use is hardly that of the mundane. I tend to agree, be it not believing that Vista is going to help people realize this goal however. But I am a firm believer in enjoying the freedom to build my own computer vs. spending money on one designed with someone else’s specs in mind.

To be clear, I am not bashing on the Mac at all. My wife owns one and she is a hardcore Mac user. No, the OS X world is alive and well in my home. But I believe that as comical as the now dated Mac commercials are, it is really time for Apple to come up with something new. Not due to a lack of entertainment value, rather the fact that if Microsoft really wanted to, it could counter a number of areas that Apple falls short with.

I think that the I’m a PC commercials are great. Apple needs to move on… Their commercials are old and tired. I don’t think Microsoft is planning on defending or promoting Vista anymore. They’re moving on and trying to make sure Windows 7 will be a big improvement over Vista when it’s released.

Pure rubbish… The Microsoft campaigns seem to stress how much freedom one has with Windows, when the same can be said of most Linux’s… They seem to tout no restrictions, no walls, just possibilities… Without ever addressing the Apple ads, the reliability and speed issues that still persist today (and managed to move into XP with SP3 - try watching video on a wireless connection on battery with XP SP2 vs. XP SP3… thank you so much, Microsoft)…

One gains the freedom to wait and repetitively administer an Operating System gone amuck…

I think the world wastes so much damn time , money and cost on trying to defend each other’s points , views and perceptions that neither Apple , Microsoft or Linux can hope to ever gain any form of ascendancy one over the other that this debate is infantile at best.

Those of you who want an Apple .. enjoy , those who want Linux enjoy , those of us left to have to suffer Microsoft we live in hope Microsoft might one day give us something akin to XP SP2 with the enhancements we asked for not the crap served up in Vista.

We should all appreciate that there are differences , always will be and we have choices. The WORST outcome for us all is if one company became a monopoly , especially if that company was Microsoft , nevertheless I appreciate Microsoft for what it has done in the past , its just a pity they seem to feel its a good policy to throw out all the things we liked about XP in favour of all the things we loathe about in VISTA and they stupidly still try to convince us we are wrong. Microsoft we are your customers , give us what we want or we will look at the alternatives.I for one am NOT interested in Windows 7 being an updated VISTA. I want the old XP interface back immediately , I want the old control panel choice back immediately , I want the old menu back in Office 2007 now , I dont want UAC imposed on me , I want to setup the start bar my way with some order thanks , I want blistering start and shut down speeds , I dont want online updates that hog my internet- Id rather have 6 monthly update CD’s from Officeworks or Dick Smith etc.I dont need the eye candy and all the hangtag junk Microsoft piles onto us by default.

Microsoft’s new ad campaign is horrible! It’s to long and tells me nothing about what Microsoft is doing for the future. Windows 7? Same old old news from Microsoft; over bloated code with a deceiving eye candy interface. Design and build the new windows OS using a Pentium II, 64meg of RAM and a 1.2gig hard drive and I may change suit. Otherwise everyone should get ready to make sure your computer has 256gig of RAM, a 500 terabyte hard drive, and no hardware older then a few months.

To add to Ken’s list, give me an option to disable the UAC and the stupid red shield in my system tray. It would be nice to ultimately have an Install mode for Administrators who are smart enough to avoid security issues without the help of Windows. setup.exe /clue “Install with all security options disabled”

i’m totally agree with you…is not funny anymore, don’t need to say i’m cool to be cool or buy cool thing!!!

show me don’t tell me!!!!!!

is the cold p.c war is finish yet!!!

What Do You Think?
