Connecting With Real People?

The latest Microsoft video is a bit clearer than the first one, as it is apparently aiming to “get back in touch with real people.”
Truth be known, this one is actually pretty funny. Not compelling me to do anything with my computing dollars based on the message expressed, but funny. I think it demonstrates that Bill Gates has a sense of humor and perhaps to a larger degree, so does Microsoft. I mean it was at Gnomedex 5.0 where IE 7 was released and its presenter showed the Microsoft Campus as the infamous Death Star - I appreciated this, it made me feel at ease with the presentation.
So what do you think - is Microsoft onto something here? Should it keep working to focus its message down to something you and I actually care about? Or instead, keep going with the video series as it has been?

Let me start off by saying I think MS has produced some very fine products and for the most part offer them at a decent price for what you get. I also know that there is no perfect operating system and that each OS, windows, mac and nix, has certain strengths and faults. With that said, I think MS is throwing allot of money away on these commercials. After watching the commercial a single time these are a couple of things I came away with. Sorry I just couldn’t bring myself to watch it more than once.
Did anyone else notice that Jerry and Bill are supposedly connecting with people but aren’t really listening to them? Just being around someone doesn’t mean you connect or understand. I think this has always been a big issue with MS. They say they want to be in touch with what people want or need but don’t really listen to them and they just go about their merry way and develop what they want. Not what the people want or need.
At the dinner scene the mother explains that she got some fancy mustard for Jerry and Bill. This would indicate that they don’t have, need or use the fancy stuff. Bill also complains that what is having is the same thing as the night before. Could it be the family likes things to stay the same? Could it be that they like their windows meal to be the same? Maybe they just want is spiced up with a little cheese but basically left the same.
Did you notice when things didn’t go well at the ping pong that Jerry blamed the mother when he missed the ball? Of course it wouldn’t be his fault. It’s always the users fault?
My last thought. I don’t want to have to think to hard about a commercial to figure out what they are talking about. I do that during working hours. I think MS would have done much better hitting Apple with its own type of commercial. They should have hired the guy who did this series on you tube.
