Wi-Fi For Your Car?

Internet connectivity: where does it end? Apparently it will not be a limitation for passengers of select Chrysler vehicles! The idea, while interesting, seems confusing to me. Now stop me if I am missing something, but if you need mobile broadband chances are you would already have this with a Verizon card or PocketPC/BlackBerry? How is turning you vehicle into a rolling hotspot really all that appealing?

Now I understand and actually like the Microsoft Sync technology that handles voice commands for your music, places phone calls and so on. However another mobile bill to pay on top of my existing wireless and broadband bills is seems a bit confusing to me at this stage?

Basically, this is EVDO service for your car. Riiight. Apparently kids were not spoiled enough by having DVD players in the back of the car, now they need ready access to the Web as well? Look, I am all for new technology as much as the next guy, but whatever happened to reading or listening to music when going on road trips?

Long haul truckers and traveling sales persons will glom on WiFi to keep up…but building it into a car sounds to me like the beginning of Big Brother meets Joe Driver. Next they will be putting cables in the road to control your vehicle!

WiFi for the car would be a nice to have:
-While the car is parked and I am near by with a unit that could converse with the car.
- While the car is parked at my home and I can load data to and from my PC.
