Internet Addiction Is Very Real

Just how bad is Internet addiction? Speaking as someone who works online and often times, cannot wait to log off of a day, I have seen the results elsewhere of Internet addiction. The aftermath is fairly scary in extreme cases. What is perhaps most frightening, is reading about some of the proposed signs of this addiction. Seriously, I can name ten people who exhibit the non-creepy/dangerous symptoms!
So what can be done? Taking some time to get help might be a good start. That and simply logging off for as much time as possible as to better work yourself away from the PC.
Many of you may believe that Internet addiction is just another excuse for whining. I would beg to differ and can point to a number of instances in which it has branched out into gaming addiction among other similar areas.
What say you? Is it all nonsense or could there truly be some truth to this Internet addiction as it were?

Why does everything have to be an addiction?
What happened to obsession. People have been getting obsessed with things that were not good for them for eons. For instance, John Newton spent years obsessed with alchemy. At least he was smart enough to figure out that it was bunk but he wasted many years and much money trying to force the universe to fit into a model that was mistaken from the start.
A stalker isn’t addicted with his or her victim. They are obsessed.
People need variety in their lives. They need go get out, do something nice for someone else. See a show, perform in a show, visit a nursing home,go to church, wax the car, take a walk or anything that gets you away from the stuff that you always do.
Live is better when humans perform a variety of functions.
Are people addicted to the internet, I doubt it. Are some people obsessed with it? Certainly they are! However, addiction and obsession are not the same thing.

AG: Hmm, obsessed - that is a good argument, actually. Perhaps it is where the two things overlap of become difficult to distinguish?
