The iPhone SDK Is Going To Be Huge

Despite not being an iPhone owner myself, news of the recent SDK is likely to make really big waves in the mobile development community. Two of the most interesting applications built for the iPhone so far have to be from Salesforce.com and Epocrates (a medical records app).
To be clear, I am sure that news of Super Monkey Ball coming out for the iPhone is prone to shaking the world markets, but let’s be serious, it will be the serious applications that can be done on the iPhone and not on other mobile platforms that will make the biggest waves.
Other companies to stand-up and take notice include:
- Nike
- Microsoft (MS Exchange, anyone?)
- Cisco
- Disney
And there are many other big names out there as well. One area that will definitely need to be changed at some point is the total lock-in with AT&T Wireless. While this is my provider of choice, Verizon is becoming more and more attractive all the time. I am sure that those people who have yet to get an iPhone for themselves, would appreciate the freedom to purchase one with their existing carrier. But that is just my take.

What? They only authorize ONE provider, AT&T?
Is Apple crazy?
That would be like creating a computer and only allowing upgrade/replacement parts to be bought from you, and not outside manufacturers! Suicide!
I’m from Canada, and we don’t even have a provider yet, I’m told.
Big questions, are they going to allow this software to be given away for free, or only sold via a special store they set up, to get their share?

iPhone will be the new gaming system. the touch screen and accelerometer make it even better than the Wii in some respects. I can’t wait!
