Windows Vista SP Woes

To be honest, I am just not feeling the whole “Service Pack 1″ ruined my life routine. Here is why: those affected are using Windows. Alright, fine. And as Windows users, you know full well that like patches to any OS, it can be a real crapshoot as to what is going to get hosed. Again, blame yourselves as you are willingly allowing Microsoft to install this stuff on your hardware.
Besides all of that, I do believe at the end of the day, once the bugs have finally been worked out, the improvements ought to get file copying all the way up to Windows XP speeds.
Now I fully understand that many companies are bound in a Windows world and for a great many people, despite its flaws, Windows still does the job. But anyone with any common level of experience who is knowingly installing brand new service packs without waiting for the blogosphere to catch up with the latest issues to be had is a fool in my mind. Unless you are working off of a test box, blind updates are not to be trusted. Security my eye, I have always been careful on all my the platforms about blindly installing the latest updates for precisely this reason - security over a functioning box, the choice is yours.
So when the next SP’s come rolling out for Vista, I would suggest waiting and allowing the other folks out there to make the mistake for you. That way when you are finally ready, hopefully the larger issues will have been resolved.

Well I learned my lesson with sp2 I now have my updates turned off.
Going to wait at least a month or longer before I even think about installing sp1 for Vista or Sp3 for xp.
That all being said I would have to say that I really use Gutsy linux 95% of the time.
Keep xp and vista installed also just in case.

Vista is a completely un-useable OS.. It is plagued by Blue Screen Crashes. When you restart the computer it has a huge issue with every program icon and path becoming corrupt requiring you to reinstall every program on the computer. File copy is not even useable it is so slow, and on and on the problems go… I would say dont even wait just load SP1.. You may get a PC that at least will copy files a bit faster, wont blue screen every day and freeze.. And HOPEFULLY they fixed the program icon corruption issue. I personally think VISTA is a BETA product at best perhaps SP1 will at least make it BETA 2
