Can You Feel The ISPs Clamping Down Yet?

It was bound to happen eventually. ISPs are looking to restrict the flow of piracy by deciding for us, what could potentially be harmful to your computer or to a software company’s bankroll.

What is truly sad about all of this, is we really do not truly know where this will end or what our new benevolent overlords will deem unsuitable for our puny mortal brains. Perhaps most bitter sweet of all, will be counting the days after this sort of thing is implemented in the name of “the customer is an idiot”, only to see malware moving to email phishing scams that skip past these weak attempts and P2P networks using encryption with their data to look legit to the ISP watchdogs.

But I am sure many ISPs can hardly wait until they are able raise our rates yet again to pay for this great new “service”. Frankly, if the ISPs want to do something about the abuses taking place out there, allow me to take a computer usage test proving that I am not some mouth breather so I might be able to get on with my day and not concern myself with this all new “Fisher-Price Internet Launchpad” mindset coming to a broadband connection near you!

Holy crap! I hope that doesn’t EVER happen, but I guess it will eventually.
We now have to seek out P2P friendly ISP’s just to be able to surf to where we want to go…sheesh!
I am lucky, here in Australia we have some ISP’s which are P2P friendly…and I joined one. I just got an email the other day from them stating that the P2P cache they implemented wasn’t big enough, so they’re doubling it’s size to 8TB! WOW!
They say that this will help speed up DLs and halve their costs to send you the data. Win win win all around. They also offer a huge 45Gb DL per month, and 12 hours of off-peak per day. This is the future of service provision - ISP’s who keep blocking and reducing what they offer will all die out eventually - long live Exetel and their brethren.

What Do You Think?
