Toy Robots - How Far We’ve Come

I look back at this and smile. I remember drooling over this as a kid in the old Sears catalogs. Looking back at the old Omnibot now, with its state of the art tape deck and remote control with retractable antenna, it is easy to see how I was so intrigued so easily.

At age 34, you might think I would have outgrown this fascination. You would be wrong. Today, the new rage is the Roboquad. What got me so interested in the Roboquad was the fact that it is totally open and ready to be hacked. Software, hardware, USB ports, it has it all. You can even hook up a wireless cam and use Skype to control it from anywhere using the Internet as a pass through.  Needless to say, this is just cool.

So how about you? Do you have a robot from childhood that to this very day, tickles your fancy? Maybe it is “Robot” from Lost in Space or Robby the Robot from “Forbidden Planet” ? Go ahead, hit the comments and tell me about your favorite robot toy.

The feeds are still coming up bad. This won’t process in juice or wizz. http://feedvalidator.org/ doesn’t seem to like it either.

Thank you for the content, extra thank you if I can get it through rss!

Roboquad doesn’t have a usb port?

Tony: Actually, I think it does, but could not get it away from my nephew long enough to find out. I did end up with a 2004 model Robosapian that I will be looking into tweaking, so that ought to be fun. :)

What Do You Think?
