Office Depot Has Won Me Over

It’s not often that I am able to speak well of our nation’s retail establishments these days, but here in Vancouver (WA), I had one such opportunity with Office Depot. I had previously purchased two of these chairs, one for each home office. I cannot speak highly enough of the ergonomic options they provide, fantastic for the money, I totally recommend them.

Anyway, in a matter of a few weeks, one of the chairs had suffered from pneumatic failure and was no longer allowing me to adjust the height of the chair itself. Even worse, I was past the allowed fifteen day mark for returning/exchanging the problem chair and had not bothered with any sort of extended warranty. Things were looking pretty grim.

I called the store of purchase here in town, I was then told that considering that I had the receipt, an even exchange should not be a problem. I was then referred to another store that had actually had some more in stock. So I called them and to my amazement I received no ‘blowback’ for being over my fifteen days there, either! They had three in stock and I was able to make the exchange without any issues at all. I was quite pleased.

It may simply be the Office Depot stores here in this town, but I can honestly say that I will be doing much more shopping at Office Depot after that experience. Wouldn’t it be great to see other stores less concerned about written return rules and instead showing more interest in me continuing to spend my money with their company? Have others out there also had great experiences with Office Depot? I would be interested in comparing notes on this. Do they handle things this well on a national basis?

I’ve had similar great customer service from the Office Depot store here in Rochester, NY. I would not hesitate to shop there or recommend them to anyone.

I had a good experience with a chair I got from Staples. I had the chair for 2 years when the pneumatic’s went out. I like the chair and called the company to buy a replacement part but they sent it so me free of charge. I was very impressed with the service and pleased because I got to keep my chair.

Hello Matt,

West Palm Beach, FL

There are TWO Office Depot stores within a pint of gas of my home/office. It is always a ‘pleasant’ experience shopping at either one. Especially compared to the often hostile / combative / dumbed-out environment at CompUSA or Circuit-City.

I even told the Office Depot manager what I though once (feel-good thoughts :) and he just grinned…

I have had very positive experience with Office Depot’s customer service. I once was being denied a $50 rebate that I had properly submitted. I called Office Depot about the issue (which was really the fault of the rebate processing company) and their representative asked me to fax in my claim information, and Office Depot sent me the $50 within a week. Fantastic!
