My Top 10 Vista Annoyances Part IV

We are now down to my last three annoyances in Vista. After asking a few co-workers for their thoughts on Vista, these final three seem to be on everyone’s "Annoyance" list.

8. Control Panel
The Control Panel in Windows XP did not change much from Windows 2000 - any changes were relatively subtle. If you have not had a chance to see the new Control Panel in Vista yet, you are in for a surprise.

The Control Panel in Vista has received a complete overhaul. My first impression was that it was cluttered and more difficult to maneuver. It seems to take far more clicks than before to reach your destination. When I return to my working computer running Windows XP, I appreciate the simplicity of the Control Panel.

If you find that you are very opposed to working in the new Control Panel, you can easily switch back to the old style Control Panel. When you open the Control Panel in Vista, simply select the Classic View option.

9. Shutdown
Performing a shut down in Vista has become overly complicated. There are at least nine different shut down choices on the Start Menu - from switch user to hibernate to sleep. Power users likely do not mind this and have no problem choosing the appropriate option. However, try explaining how to shut down a laptop or desktop to a new user when they have nine different options to choose.

10. Usability Issues
Finally, this one relates back to some of the previous annoyances I have discussed. Vista has managed to make what used to be simple tasks too complex. Tasks that should take one-step now take four or five steps. I am a fan of simplicity and it seems to me that Vista has thrown simplicity out the window.

I agree Windows Vista seems annoying at first but that’s just because it’s new and different; used long enough believe me you will not want to go back to XP. I also agree Windows Vista is not going to be easy to new Window’s users and even veterans will take time to adjust to its uniqueness. Vista is much more powerful and has more features then XP but with that power and those features comes problems high hardware requirements, confusion of usability, and more likely to experience compatibility issues among other things. I think “Windows 7″ will be the biggest jump since DOS to Windows or Windows 98 to Windows 2000. Windows Vista is merely a placeholder I believe before we receive a revolutionary Windows Operating System. In the meantime Vista will only get better as more upgrades are made and more software takes advantage of Vista’s potential. Also hopefully better books on Vista like all the ones for XP will soon come, so we can make better use of this operating system. Vista, gets to much bad press. I describe Vista as a new job its scary at first, takes times getting used to, you look back and think about things you liked about your old job, you complain about things in this job, but as you become friends with your coworkers and learn the customs, you ease into it and realize how much better it is then your old job.

What Do You Think?
