E-Mail:

Loathing POP Mail Today

I’ve been wondering why I don’t use a smarter approach to my email. Not on the local end of things, as I use my Evolution script (soon to appear at code.google.com) to make local mail back-ups. No, rather because I am ultimately responsible for which email address I hand out to people as the definitive address.

Well over the weekend, my Lockergnome email address had some issues during a server move and was completely down, which was news to me until today. I was not seeing any sort of error popping up during mail checks and did not realize that my mail was not making it to me, despite a sudden drop in the inbox volume. In light of this, if there has been any email sent to me from Thurs the 13th on, please resend it as the server may have not been delivering it to me.

I for one learned that even the most reliable email situation, has it’s ups and downs. But in the end, it can has to be something that the end user is responsible for - which would be me. So from this point on, I will definitely be taking a more proactive approach to my own email fluidity as with some one who depends on it for contact daily, it is critical to have a decent fall back plan when something goes wrong.
